Rhys Jennings writing Turing musical with Darren Clark

Rhys Jennings is collaborating with composer Darren Clark on a powerful new musical in development: TURING.

TURING is a biographical piece exploring the extraordinary life and legacy of Alan Turing – mathematician, WW2 codebreaker, pioneer of modern computing, and a gay man at a time when living openly came at great personal cost. Beyond his groundbreaking contributions to science, the musical also delves into Turing’s profound spirituality, inner conflicts, and his pursuit of understanding the universe.

Rhys and Darren have collaborated before with their musical The Wicker Husband which was the receipient of the inaugural Stiles and Drewe Mentorship Award, was selected for the NAMT Festival of New Musicals in New York and premiered at the Watermill Theatre in 2020 before returning post-pandemic for a run in 2022. Meanwhile, Darren recently picked up two Olivier Award wins for the West End transfer of his musical The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttton.

Rhys and Darren first introduced TURING at the 2018 BEAM Festival at Theatre Royal Stratford East and have premiered material from the show at several SIGNAL concerts over the years.

TURING was offered a commission from ALP (now Timelapse) and continues its journey toward production. The team have received in-kind support from the National Theatre Studio, Trinity Laban, and the New Diorama Theatre Broadgate. Rhys also awarded a bursary from the Peggy Ramsay Foundation to support early exploration.
