WIP: Jack Norris – To Those Islanders

Producer, Writer

Written and directed by Jack Norris, with support from Arts Council England.

To Those Islanders is a haunting and heartfelt piece of physical theatre set on the island of Jersey. It explores our fundamental need to forgive, to connect, and to love.

The story begins in 1995 with Ava, a 17-year-old blind foster child from London who has lost her sense of self and become increasingly disconnected from her foster mother, Dani.

When Dani takes Ava to Jersey for the summer holidays, Ava encounters a forgotten lighthouse seemingly trapped in time. Inside, Ava meets Evelyn, another blind teenager, who leads her on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery, challenging everything Ava believes about herself…

Jack, together with his co-collaborators have been on an extraordinary journey with the show themselves. From research trips to Jersey to multiple research and development workshops with visually impaired theatre-makers, audio describers, composers and designers, To Those Islanders has become a rich collaboration built on creativity, experimentation and discovery

In 2025, filmmaker Noah Cox followed the creative team’s journey over a series of R&D workshops that year, resulting in the documentary film In the Lanternroom which is now available in full here:
