MARK MILLIGAN in a public reading of The Wild, a new play by Simon Stephens, based on the short story Wodwo by Mark Haddon as part of Marlowe Theatre’s Writers’ Room festival….

It’s Christmas Eve. The snow has started to fall. A familiar family dinner unfolds – salmon quiche, pavlova, wine, After Eights. Then, a knock at the window. The Stranger has come for Gavin…

Darkly playful and rooted in folklore, The Wild is a twisted exploration of power, fate, and the moment ordinary life slips into something far more dangerous.

Simon Stephens is one of the UK’s most celebrated contemporary playwrights, known for his stage adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (also by Mark Haddon), which won multiple Olivier and Tony Awards and continues to be produced worldwide.

The reading is directed by Lily Dyble, winner of the 2025 RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award, whose recent work spans theatre and opera and who previously directed Mark in My Pet Star for the Marlowe.

The script-in-hand performance will be followed by a Q&A with Simon Stephens and Mark Haddon.
