British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) is a primary developer of new musical theatre. They take a new musical from concept to performance providing opportunities for young people to get involved and be part of the process.

Every year they run Easter and summer camps across the UK where young people can work on a new musical with a team of professional creatives.

We are delighted that this year, designer George P. Martin, has been working on Paper Stars for BYMT with performances at Exeter’s Barnfield Theatre.

Paper Stars tells the story of Lyndon Groff who became P.L. Travers, the legendary writer of the Mary Poppins series of books. It’s whimsical musical theatre inflected with a pop sensibility. It’s about dreams, resilience and the stories that shape us.

George’s work blends whimsy with couture, bringing fantasy and fairytale to life in one stylish sweep. His aesthetic seems ideally suited to this magical world and we are excited to see what he has dreamed up.

Paper Stars has music & lyrics by Luke Byrne and a book by Grace Chapple.
Direction is by Miranda Middleton, Musical Direction by Bianca Fung and Choreography by Tinovimbanashe Sibanda.
