Iona Ramsay (she/her) is a writer and librettist based in Glasgow. She graduated with an MA in English from the University of St Andrews in 2019.

Iona’s recent credits include Thread: A New Musical (One Ren, 2022), Crisis: A Rallying Cry (Traverse Theatre, 2022), LAND (Gilded Balloon Patter Hoose, 2022), Not So Wee at All (PACE Theatre Company, 2023), and Beau and the Snow Fairy (One Ren, PACE, 2023).

Iona’s musical Welcome to Serene, co-written with composer Bethany Tennick as Tennick & Ramsay, won the British Youth Music Theatre’s New Music Theatre Award for 2024. Other awards include Best Writing at the International 48Hr Film Festival for short film A Walk in the Park, which was later screened at the Short Film Festival in Cannes. She is currently co-writing Hysterica with writing partner Bethany Tennick, developed with Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Capital Theatre’s New Musicals Commissioning Hub in 2024.

Iona also worked as the librettist for The Neverbeast, Scotland’s first Snappy Opera (Mahogany Opera, 2025). She is also a drama facilitator and a member of the Senior Artistic Team at PACE Youth Theatre.
