“Make your own work,” we always say.
That’s exactly what Diego Zozaya, alongside his fellow co-hort from LAMDA, have been doing since graduation. And we love to see it!
Last year, Diego wrote, directed, and starred in his own bold Shakespearean spin-off, A Mechanical’s Midsummer Night’s Dream – a reimagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream told from the Rude Mechanicals’ point of view. The show was performed at LAMDA’s Salisbury Theatre in London before travelling to the World Theatre Education Alliance Festival in China, marking Diego out as a theatre-maker with both ambition and international reach.
And now, Diego is perfroming at the newly rebranded Old Red Lion Playhouse in another new work – Miraculous.
Written by Luke Stiles – Diego’s LAMDA peer and former castmate in A Mechanical’s Midsummer Night’s Dream – Miraculous places two very different characters in close quarters: Josh, a teenage student brimming with arrogance, insecurity, and theological angst, and Paul – played by Diego – a young father wrestling with faith, leadership, and belief.
Set over a week of mentorship meetings at a Christian sleep-away camp, the play becomes a tense, funny, and unflinching exploration of sex, belief, doubt, and divine intervention. As the two men stress-test each other’s convictions, they are forced to confront what it really means to believe in miracles, and what happens when faith begins to fracture.
Honest, restless, and emotionally raw, Miraculous is directed by Olivier Award–nominated and twice Offie-nominated Toby Clarke, and produced by Brock Looser.
