Taiyo Yoshida and Dominic Varney are a London-based writing duo that met at the University of Manchester where they bonded over a shared love of Weetos, FIFA tournaments, and Vine videos. You’ll usually find them listening to Green Day, logging films on Letterboxd or rewatching episodes of I Think You Should Leave. Taiyo’s favourite musical is Hercules and Dominic’s is Avenue Q.

Their projects include: Chosen – a comedy musical about an IT Support Technician in her 60s who becomes the messiah during a zombie apocalypse. It was showcased at BEAM23, which led to a rehearsed reading at The Other Palace, a week of development with the Birmingham Hippodrome, and a regional tour as part of the Lowry’s ‘Rewrites’ programme. Layla & Captain Doom – a family musical about an 8-year-old girl who has to help a supervillain return to his TV show. It was showcased at BEAM25. The Edelweiss Pirates – an ensemble rock musical based on the true story of a group of working class teenagers who opposed the Nazis.

Taiyo worked as a Script Editor at Mammoth Screen before completing a playwriting course at the National Theatre and graduating from London Film School with a Master’s Degree in Screenwriting. Dominic studied Drama at the University of Manchester before training as an actor at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He is a Book, Music & Lyrics’ advanced group alumnus.
