Gilly Tompkins is an experienced stage and screen actress whose career spans nearly four decades. A long-time collaborator of playwright John Godber, she originated roles in Teechers and eight further Godber plays – many of which have since become modern classics. She went on to become a central member of Northern Broadsides, building a reputation as a rock-solid, versatile performer with exceptional comic instincts and a deep well of pathos.

Gilly’s screen work stretches across generations of British television, with recent appearances in Bridgerton and Call the Midwife, alongside earlier favourites including her much-loved Victoria Wood sketch, Pippa’s Nix, alongside Celia Imrie.

On stage, Gilly has led numerous productions across the UK, notably starring as the title role of the Birmingham Stage Company’s hit adaptation of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny, which was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment & Family.

A natural storyteller and an instinctive collaborator, Gilly brings warmth, truth and focus to every project, even when at a tangent to her acting work. She is currently co-creating a stage production of The Adventures of Mrs. Pepperpot, as she holds exclusive theatrical rights to Alf Prøysen’s beloved stories. Gilly also served as Assistant Acting Coach on Netflix/Complete Fiction’s Lockwood & Co. – testament to her craft and care.

Now seeking to expand her TV, Film, and Voice Acting portfolio, Gilly is a safe pair of hands: grounded, generous, technically assured, and deeply committed to authentic, character-driven work.
